Cahaya Purnama for SA voices and piano

This piece is originally composed for mixed choir in 2017 and made into SA and Piano arrangement in 2022. The title Cahaya Purnama means moonlight, taken from the name of the 15th governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaya Purnama (read: Basuki Cahaya Purnama) who has inspired Cherly at the time she wrote this piece because he has made a lot of good changes toward Jakarta, Indonesia, where the composer has grown up. Jelang Tengah Malam

Jelang Tengah Malam is the last song of Cherly’s Siklus Hidup. This particular song is written in Gb major. The lyrics specifically contain no rolling “r” due to Cherly’s difficulties in spelling rolling “r”.

This song is about someone who is remembering one’s life, approaching the end of the ‘night’.

    Jelang tengah malam kupejamkan mataku

    Kuingat-ingat lagi pagiku

    Diam-diam, kupandang senyuman manismu

    Kuabadikan dalam hatiku

    Jelang tengah malam kupejamkan mataku

    Menantikanmu datang ke dalam mimpiku

    Jelang tengah malam kupanjatkan doaku

    Diam-diam, tanpa ada yang tahu

    Jelang tengah malam kupejamkan mataku

    Kegelapan menyelimutiku

    Dengan keabadian ku akan menyatu

    Meninggalkan pagi

    Dan senyummu.

    Di Bawah Lembayung Senja

    Alexandra Katya, soprano
    Prajna Indrawati, piano

Di Bawah Lembayung Senja is the second piece of Cherly’s Siklus Hidup. This particular song is written in B minor as requested by Prajna Indrawati, a collaborative pianist whom requested Cherly to write a piano piece in B minor. The lyrics specifically contain no rolling “r” due to Cherly’s difficulties in spelling rolling “r”.

This song is about one’s midlife struggle, not knowing what the future holds, yet the universe said: keep moving forward with full of hope.

Di bawah lembayung senja setapak demi setapak aku melangkah.

Tak nampak bagiku ujung jalan, gelita laksana malam tiada bintang.

Namun semesta membisikkan padaku, lewat hembusan angin menyapaku:

    “Melangkahlah dengan penuh asa.”
